First Due Movers
Your Seattle Moving Experts
Are you licensed and insured?
Are you licensed and insured?
Absolutely. We are fully licensed and insured. Our licensing numbers are: DOT # 1990914, WUTC # 063862, MC # 865709. Every move also includes basic valuation protection at no charge, with upgraded replacement coverage options available — see "What protection is available for my belongings?" for details.
What protection is available for my belongings?
What protection is available for my belongings?
First Due Movers, like all licensed moving companies in Washington State, offers three levels of valuation protection for your items. While often referred to as "moving insurance," it is technically called valuation protection, which determines the mover's level of responsibility if an item is lost or damaged during your move.
Basic protection is automatically included with every move at no additional charge. If an item is lost or damaged, reimbursement is based on the item's weight rather than its actual value — approximately $0.60 to $0.72 per pound for most items. For example, a damaged 10-pound lamp would typically be reimbursed between $6 and $7.20.
Replacement coverage with a $300 deductible is our standard option unless another option is selected. Claims are settled based on the declared value of your shipment, with the customer responsible for the first $300 of the claim. This provides significantly greater protection than basic coverage while keeping the cost affordable.
Full replacement coverage with no deductible is our highest level of protection. Claims are handled based on the declared value of your shipment with no deductible — recommended for customers moving high-value belongings.
The right choice depends on the value of your belongings and your comfort level with risk. Our team is happy to explain each option and help you determine the best fit for your move.

How does labor-only service work?
How does labor-only service work?
Our labor-only service pairs you with a professional, experienced moving crew that handles all the heavy lifting — loading, unloading, or both. It's a premium service used for assisted living transitions, POD and container loading, furniture rearranging, storage unit help, delivery placement, and rental truck loading. Every crew member is trained to the same high standards as our full-service movers.
How far in advance should I book my move?
How far in advance should I book my move?
We recommend booking 1–2 weeks in advance (2–3 weeks if you'd also like packing services), and even earlier during peak moving season (May-September). If your timeline is tight, reach out — same-day or next-day availability is unlikely, but we'll do our best to find the earliest date that works for you.
What do you need from me on moving day?
What do you need from me on moving day?
Have items boxed and ready, ensure clear pathways, reserve parking for the moving truck if needed, and be available to answer questions. We'll handle the heavy lifting while you supervise.
